A workshop about performance measurements and corporate governance will take place at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.

Performance measurement has been a high profile issue over the last few decades. Several, systematic approaches have been proposed including critical success factors, the performance prism, the balanced scorecard, the performance pyramid and tableau de bord.
The specific issue is focused broadly on the design qualities and functioning of responsive performance measurements and Performance Measurement Systems, able to effectively support boards and CEOs in strategic decision making and risk monitoring.

Possible topics

• The functions of performance measurement systems and judgement on their success (e.g. anticipating, controlling, learning, communicating)
• Forms of governance and performance measurements
• The role of performance measurements and the financial crisis
• Criteria of a good performance measurement system to improve corporate governance
• Performance measurement systems and sustainable growth
• The relation between strategy and performance measurements (position,options, implementation and risk)
• Novel measures of performance and their impact on corporate governance
• Performance evaluation for boards, including the use of performance measurement systems
• Integration between risk management and performance measurement systems.

However, other topics on the design qualities and functioning of performance measurement in its actual and potential relation with corporate governance are also welcome.
Both theoretical and empirical studies are encouraged by the Guest Editors.

• 30 June 2010: Notification of acceptance for presentation at the Workshop on ”Performance Measurements and Corporate Governance”
• 10-11 September 2010: Workshop
• 20 September 2010: final selection and starting of the refereeing process of the selected papers for the Special Issue JMG on ”Performance Measurements and Corporate Governance”
